BEST FESTIVALS IN EUROPE THIS SUMMER

We don’t know what it is, but there’s just something about traipsing around a muddy floor whilst taking in some 4/4 electronic music. But it isn’t for everybody. If it’s the likelihood of rain or mud underfoot putting you off, then there’s always a safer option: Europe festival season is calling! Why not combine a holiday away with full-on festival? Tan guaranteed! It all kicks-off on 3rd May with Annie Mac’s Lost & Found festival in Malta (last remaining tickets on sale now!) But looking further ahead, here’s our pick of the rest:

18 Hrs Festival, Balkenhaven (near Amsterdam) – 14th July 2018

The eponymously-titled 18 Hrs Festival returns for its eighth edition in 2018. Music from across the house and techno sphere will carry the music from midday through the night until early the next morning. True its name, some of the biggest names in electronic music will grace the festival over the course of its lifespan, going from dusk ’till dawn! With the music ringing out from open-air stages until 11pm, then continuing inside until 6am in the festival’s own warehouses, it is truly one of the most insane one-dayers Europe has to offer! The line-up includes Ben Sims, Reiner Zonneveld, Jay Lumen & Surgeon.

RPMM Festival, Porto, Portugal – 28th-29th July 2018

Brand new for 2018, RPMM promises to bring international names from the world of house and techno whilst simultaneous giving a platform for an often-overlooked local scene. The long-term vision is to cement the city’s underground as one of Europe’s best and expose its protagonists to a wider audience by placing them alongside more familiar faces. The venue for the inaugural year is the stunningly listed building of Alfandega, a multi-functional event space that is located on the banks of the River Douro in the historic old town of Porto. For that weekend the UNESCO World Heritage Site will become an adult playground, hosting parties day-and-night, as well as a boat party on the Douro taking in unrivalled views of the city. Line-up details TBA.

Sonus, Zcre Beach, Pag Island, Croatia – 19th-23rd August 2018

Our personal favourite! Brought to you by the team behind Time Warp, so you know they know how to put on a show. 70 artists play three clubs, right along the idyllic Adriatic coastline. Want to party open-air all night? Want to watch the sunrise while listening to your favourite DJ? Want to go swimming in crystal clear waters all day? Then Sonus is the festival for you! Adam Beyer, Âme, Richie Hawtin, Peggy Gou & Tale Of Us are amongst the highlights. But line-up aside, it really is the location which needs to be experienced for itself. Pure hedonism, words just don’t do it justice.

Dimensions, Fort Punta Christo, Croatia – 29th August-3rd September

Yet again, Dimensions have curated a programme of soulful electronic music, spanning house, techno, disco, bass and more. Not only is the line-up top drawer, but they pride themselves that their technical specification is more refined than any other festival of its size. That means their sound quality and volume is unbeaten! It’s the place to come and enjoy flavours of Chicago, Detroit, London and Berlin on a sun-soaked shoreline. Surrounded by pine trees and overlooking crystal blue waters, Fort Punta Christo is a 19th century fortress and Dimension’s home since 2012. It just might be one of the most amazing festival venue ever conceived. Kraut rock pioneers Kraftwerk headline alongside Nils Frahm, Moodymann & Josey Rebelle.
