Now Halloween is out of the way, we’re on a slippery slope to the dreaded “C” word. Fortunately, that also means good news: some of the best parties of the year are around the corner! None moreso than LWE’s infamous New Year’s Day shindig at Tobacco Dock. Unbelievably 2018’s edition on Monday 1st January will mark 5 years of parties at the Wapping event space – where has the time gone?! We can still remember stepping hesitantly off the DLR in unfamiliar territory, gawping as we walked into the Great Gallery for the first time and getting lost underground in the car park. During that period Tobacco Dock has become one of London’s most illustrious venues.
In case you missed the news, the second wave of artists playing has now dropped! Joining Maetrik Live by Maceo Plex, KiNK, Alan Fitzpatrick, Nastia & Co. are three blockbuster acts. Floorplan are the father-daughter double-act who have broken down parameters of the genre. Robert Hood’s reputation proceeds him. His M-Plant label has been at the epicentre of the birth and evolution of techno. Lyric’s classic soul vocal fused with her dad’s masterful knowledge of electronic music is like watching poetry in motion. Borrowing heavily from disco, they still manage to retain the rawness of Detroit creating a truly unique dancefloor vibe.
The second artist is Ø [Phase] – a UK live act whose repertoire ranges from obscure minimal to gritty Detroit techno. Never afraid to push the tempo, you can expect Ø to broach 130bpm territory and be pushing onto 140! That now takes the tally of live performances to a salivating five!
Back on the DJ front, Roman Flügel is the next act joining us on NYD. A true student of techno, he’s been at the forefront of the German scene for the best part of three decades. There’s no rulebook with Roman. He’ll be happy to mix it up with electro whilst never compromising on quality.
That almost completes the line-up, but there’s still one more announcement to go – so stay tuned! Tickets are flying-out, and this event always sells out weeks in advance. We’re counting down the days. Get us back beneath those beams with our hands in the air!
