ON RECORD: LAYTON GIORDANI

Blossoming as one of Techno’s prestige talents, Layton Giordani has genuinely displayed his character through performances world-wide. Setting the bar high, Layton sweeps the ears of listeners from his significant DJ sets & catalog of productions.

His first Drumcode related release came on Trusoul in 2016 - as his relationship with Adam Beyer and Truesoul developed, the young producer reached a landmark in his career by releasing ‘Rivington’ on the main imprint. He plays for the label at Ebrington Square on Saturday. He talks us through some of his favourite tracks across the years.

First record you ever bought?
Daft Punk – “Discovery"

Not sure if it was my first record but was one of the first for sure. I was a big fan of them when I was young, and still am. They have managed to stay relevant with their recent productions.

The record you chill to?
Sublime – “What I Got”

Love this tune, just chill out beach vibes kind of stuff. I’m a beach boy at heart and spent all of my childhood there, so these kind of tracks take me back home.

Your guilty pleasure?
Plain White T’s – “Hey There Delilah”

I grew up with basically all ladies in my household, so this is not one of the manliest of tracks to choose, but I think it’s still really good with that solo guitar riff!

Track you opened your last set with?
Dast –“ Let You Go”

It all depends on where you are playing and the crowd vibes, as to what you are going to open your set with.

A guaranteed floor filler?
Sound Associates - Boombox (Len Faki Edit)

This one is a massive techno record. Anytime I play this for a heavy techno crowd they go nuts!

Your own record that you’re proudest of?
Layton Giordani – “Tigerlilly”

This one grew on me for quite a while, but after giving it a break and listening again after some time, it’s now one of my favourites.

Track you wished you’d written?
Murr feat. Rosina – “Dive Into the Deepest” (Maceo Plex Remix)

Sooooo good. Really creative and holds energy, emotion, and constantly stays interesting.

The ideal festival track?
Sam Paganini - Skin

Long builds are great for festivals to keep the tension rising and Sam really hit the nail on the head with this one. It’s a massive track and I love to play it out at every festival.

Track that makes you emotional?
The xx – “Together”

I am really into all kinds of music, and this one has so much sorrow written into it, in my eyes anyway. It's a really beautiful piece of music.

Album you’ll always come back to?
Nirvana – “Nevermind”

This is an album that I listen to still at least once a month…I’m a huge Nirvana fan.

One track that didn’t get enough love lately?
Johannes Heil –“EXILE 008 B2” (Original Mix)

Such a great tune, so simple but soooo effective. Love it – check it out if you haven’t already!
