Todd “The God” Terry is back and firing on all cylinders with a slew of new releases. He’s recently brought his classic track Samba up to date with two 2017 reworks. But that’s not all: he’s just released a collab with Project89 titled Tee’s Difference – a certified club banger. Aaaand he’s still found time to remix Max Chapman’s latest release on Hot Creations, La Fiesta.
He may now be in his fiftieth year, but Todd shows no signs in slowing down. Having worked under a variety of pseudonyms – including The Todd Terry Project and House of Gypsies - he’s always been a prolific producer and remixer. There’s just too many hit records to name and too many accolades to list. Annie Lennox, Everything But the Girl, Garbage, George Michael, Jamiroquai, Robin S, SNAP – he’s remixed them all, bridging the gap between the charts and the underground. He sits alongside Kenny Dope, Frankie Knuckles and Derrick Carter as laying the foundations of the scene. With a career that spans 4 decades, Todd Terry is a Life In House Music.
The New York native might not have initially received the recognition he deserved in his homeland. But when dance music blew up in Europe and he started getting booked to play in the UK, it wasn’t long before he was making a name for himself on both sides of the pond. Today, his US House sound is still inspiring new legions of clubbers at parties like Sankey’s The Redlight. It’s just straight-up feel good Chicago house with a dash of hip-hop – his first love. Infectious.
Welcome to the church of house music, presided over by Todd the God. Are you a believer? If you aren’t already, then chances are you will be by the time you finish. Preach.
Todd Terry plays for Memory Box at Patterns, Brighton on Saturday 9th September.
2nd release tickets are on sale now.
