No Glastonbury? No problem! While Worthy Farm will be taking a fallow year in 2018 in order for the land to regenerate, the good news is there will be no hibernation for the spider! With 2018 also marking its tenth anniversary, the time feels right for the giant 50-tonne mechanical arachnid to star in its own showcase. Next year Arcadia joins forces with LWE to bring the spectacle to a yet-undisclosed London location across the weekend of 5th-6th May.

The multi-sensory show promises to fuse architecture, sculpture, circus, robotics, engineering, music and aerial performance with cutting-edge technology. In sticking with the ethos of Glastonbury, Arcadia follows a mantra of recycling and resourcefulness. As well as being built from reclaimed military hardware and other unwanted scrap, this also includes development of the world's first recycled biofuel pyrotechnic display, making it a true marvel of mechanical engineering. With senses heightened and imagination in freefall, the visuals are complimented by a soundtrack provided by a crop of electronic music’s finest, with the likes of Carl Cox, Goldie & Krafty Kuts having played from its underbelly. We can only speculate at which artists are likely to grace the structure on this occasion – but expect it to be BIG!

It is now a cornerstone of Glastonbury festival, as iconic as The Pyramid stage, Shangri-La, and NYC Downlow. With appearances on 4-continents - including Ultra’s flagship festival during Miami Music Week, Arcadia has garnered a legend entirely of its own. At the centrepiece is the shape-shifting, fire-breathing Metamorphosis show which has to be experienced to be believed. But we can’t overlook the spectacular ‘Lords of Lightning’ electricity-manipulation show, either. Featuring Tesla-designed coils which generate upto 4 million volts of electricity, and daredevil stuntmen who quite literally hurl lightning-bolts at one another.

The mind-blowing experience is the brainchild of Pip Rush and Bertie Cole. Pip & Bert had this to say about the spectacle: “We can’t wait to bring Arcadia into the capital for the first time. Having toured the globe, we’re really excited to get back onto home soil, and celebrate the best of the past decade.”
