“I was born in a small village in the east of Ukraine to a normal family. Nobody was a musician in my family and there was no opportunity to obtain musical education. But I loved to dance and danced well” – says Nastia, of her beginnings in a place called Donetsk, an industrial city situated in the east of Ukraine, close to the Russian border. Musical heritage or not, she has begun to make a fine name for herself across Europe and beyond.
A DJ and producer, Nastia started her career unexpectedly in 2005, gaining experience as a promoter, stage manager and radio show host. For five consecutive years, Nastia worked on projects with Kazantip and as well as hosting her weekly radio show at the esteemed KISS FM Ukraine, she has now integrated these experiences into the entirety of the Nastia brand, which includes conceptual parties and a vinyl only record label, all combined under the name ‘Propaganda’. She acknowledges the beginning of her journey as “I immediately found my first job as a dancer in the best club of the city. After some time, this was not enough anymore, and I wanted to move forward, so I began to spin. That was 2005....”.
Since the inauguration of Propaganda, she has released records featuring newbies like iO Mulen and Andrey Zots. The label features concise tracks ranging from convolutedly detailed minimal to dubby breakbeats. She has also made debut performances at clubs such as Panorama Bar, Fabric, Circo Loco as well as a bunch of highly rated festivals.
Nastia heads to Leeds to perform at the latest edition of Mint Festival, taking place on Saturday 24th September.
