ARTIST FOCUS: PSYCHEMAGIK

Psychemagik’s first appearance was an edit of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Everywhere’, which quickly found its way into the record bags of veterans and newbies alike, Greg Wilson and Tom Middleton were playing the record out regularly. The twosome have since then gone on to release an impressive array of highly acclaimed original productions, remixes and edits.

The likes of Boy George, Haim, Bryan Ferry, Mirror People, Metronomy and Kauf (to name a few) have all called upon Psychemagik to create renditions of their own creations in recent times, stapling themselves as first choice remixers that crisscross genres and scene affiliations. They’ve also made a name for themselves with a series of sought after edits, their recent version of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Dreams’ topped the Hype Machine charts and has turned heads on dance floors all across the globe.

An early record deal with Warner Music meant that the pair remained unheard for longer than was necessary. The label promised vocalists like CeeLo Green and notably, they got to work with the same orchestra that performed on Amy Winehouse’s legendary ‘Back To Black’. Ultimately though, promises didn’t materialise and the pair moved forward releasing tracks through imprints such as Piccadilly Records and their own label ‘Pyschemagik’. Lucky for us that they did - they have now established themselves firmly with support from 2 Many DJ’s, Soulwax, Fake Blood and Chemical Brothers.

Their latest remix is a full-bodied remix of The Temper Trap’s ‘Fall Together’ from their latest album Thick As Thieves. The trippy rework fuses modern hip- hop beats with nu disco groove, perfectly demonstrating what Psychemagik are best at.

You can catch the crate diggers perform at Patterns in Brighton on 13 th August.
