We’re not ones to generalise, but it could be argued that Birmingham’s innercity could do with an injection of colour every now and then. Which is why Carnival Magnifico’s return to the second city after a two-year break should be screamed from the rooftops! The inner city shindig renowned for its bright and garish decor will be returning to its spiritual home under the arches of Digbeth Arena, bringing a dose of Rio to the midlands on Friday 7th June.
Talent from all over the UK will be converging at the centre point of the UK, bringing sunshine riddims and Mardi Gras vibes. Cut-up-king and stealthy dexterous ninja Jaguar Skills will headline the Warehouse, with a 100% hip-hip set - definitely not one to be missed. Meanwhile, gnarly jungle pioneer Shy FX is heading proceedings in the carnival arena. Support comes from ragga legend General Levy, while UK Apache performs a live PA. Plus Steel city’s Steezey ambassador Toddla T and Bristol-based joker Patrick Nazemi are two more names involved in the antics. Providing a touch of house in room three, is Leeds duo PBR Streetgang - meaning that all tastes are catered for across the spectrum of Jamaican-influenced UK bass music.
As well as the music, you can expect glittering LED displays, street dancers, giant balloon drops, samba bands, firebreathers and outrageous costumes in an explosion of colour. With a combination of indoor and outdoor arenas, Carnival Magnifico has something from everybody - a true marvel of the senses. The event forms the first day program of the city’s Weird & Wonderful Weekender. Produced by seasoned promoters, Weird Science, the two-day metropolitan extravaganza will also feature DJ EZ and Gorgon City the following day.
Best believe that flamboyant, vibrant carnival-style get-up is encouraged, so plume like that magnificent peacock you are on the inside!
