It’s the news you’ve been waiting for - here is the first round of names playing Arcadia London next May Day Bank Holiday weekend.
On Saturday 4th May, Arcadia’s first four artists can all boast being label heads of pioneering dance music imprints. Spearheading proceedings on Helix Saturday is Hot Creations supremo, Jamie Jones. His legend has been forged by exploits at DC10 Ibiza and a party mentality that is often more on the wavelength of those on the dancefloor than behind the booth. Most recently, JJ unveiled a different facet of his artistry, when he took his orchestral-electronic hybrid project with Kate Simko to The Barbican. However, this will mark a return to more familiar territory - playing pumping house and techno at an expansive outdoor arena. The one key difference, will be that on this occasion, the Welshman will be playing from the heart of the fire-breathing arachnid - adding uniqueness to this spellbinding spectacle.
He’s joined by a Drumcode records regular and a DJ/producer who has focused on building his own label We Are The Brave in recent years. Alan Fitzpatrick is the UK techno superstar whose music invokes the nostalgia of rave. Armed with chant-along anthems, Big Al is the ideal booking for a festival that taps into our primal desire to dance.
Hot Since 82 is the third name. Having returned to the studio in the past year, the Yorkshireman is preparing to drop his sophomore LP on his own Knee Deep In Sound. Expect to hear lots of new material at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Finally (for now...) the legendary Sasha is the very special guest for the day. Joining fellow countryman Jamie Jones, Sasha is the scene veteran who was present at the dawn of the acid house movement. That he has lasted at the top of his game since then is a testament to his unwavering popularity. Given his roots, it is fitting the Last Night On Earth boss is involved with Arcadia in 2019.
Much like last year, Sunday will showcase artists from the bass spectrum. Titled Radium, the first name out of the block is one of the most adventurous and showmanic DJs on the circuit, whose dexterity has kept him relevant despite trends coming and going. Expect lightening fast cut-mixing littered with FX as nobody else can match. It’s the one and only DJ EZ!
Joining him, D&B band Sub Focus will be tearing a cyclone through East London with their distinct brand of chart-ready, cinematic productions. After appearing as part of trio TQD at last year’s inaugural festival, Flava D returns to Arcadia for a solo set. We envision her rippin’ up the dancefloor with her 2-step riddims. Adding some authentic London seasoning, grime lord Lethal Bizzle will be gracing Stratford with his gnarly tones and Eastend lingo.
As you can see, only eight artists so far, but already both days’ identities are starting to take shape. Of course, the centrepiece across the entire weekend will be the jaw-dropping Metamorphosis show, alongside cultural performance, immersive skits and a brand new, reimagined 360 degree indoor arena.
