DJ Food has never shied away from the fact that he is a huge Aphex Twin fan (but then again, aren’t we all?). In 2015 Richard ‘Aphex’ James spoilt us all by uploading several hundred tracks which hadn’t previously seen the light of day. Most were unreleased demos, but obscure live tracks and VIP edits were among the haul. DJ Food was quick to jump on this treasure trove, and the end result - an 85 minute/31-track mix - aired during the first half of his Solid Steel radio show of February that year.
Fast forward 2 years, and DJ Food is about to embark on another venture. On Friday 8th September Kamio will host the first in a series of DJ Food Audio-Visual shows. And on this occasion the night will compromise entirely of music by – you guessed it – Aphex Twin. Following on from a phenomenal summer for Aphex Twin, thanks in no small part to a hugely hyped London comeback show at Field Day and subsequent vinyl release, this could be just the throwback set the city is waiting for.
Much like the Solid Steel mix, we can expect classic Aphex Twin tracks sitting alongside obscurities, remixes and forgotten gems mixed as only Food knows how, with the added bonus of being accompanied by customised AFX visuals projected onto a giant 16-foot screen.
As we look forward to this AV treat, we revisit Food’s 2015 mix to get us firmly in the mood.
