It’s been an amazing summer in the capital. But even so, we’re now hankering for hot chocolates, scarfs and illuminations lighting up the night sky. Before we start thinking about mulled wine and markets on Southbank, there’s plenty going on throughout Autumn to keep you entertained. Here’s our picks on what’s going down over the next few weeks.
Candlelight Club return for a clandestine Halloween shindig on Saturday 27th October. Evoke the spirit of the jazz age, with attire from the 20s, swing bands and plenty of festive paraphernalia, like jack-o-lanterns and devil horns. To keep things uber-exclusive, ticket holders will only be informed of the secret location at the eleventh hour.
On Monday 29th October, retro-gaming enthusiasts REZtron return with their latest bout of nostalgic console adulation. This time occupying the 48th floor of Capeesh Sky Bar, attendees can reminisce about the extracurricular pursuits of their childhood, with games from the golden era of SEGA. With the original MegaDrive celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, what perfect timing to dust the cobwebs off those twitchin’ fingers.
You’ll have your choice of fireworks displays in the coming weeks. With Guy Fawkes Night falling on a Monday this year, the observed weekend will be Friday 2nd & Saturday 3rd November. At the start of the weekend, fans of electro can combine their fireworks with a boat party on the thames. Setting off from Temple Pier on Victoria Embankment, The Dodo Club present Electro Alliance founder and Larry McCormick alias EXZAKT. Alongside Larry will be a live set from J Frank of Irrational Media Society fame, ADJ and Ancell. The action starts at 21:00.
The following day, UKG Brunch are back. Cheekily extending the halloween celebrations into a second weekend as only garage aficionados can, Bushkin and FONTI from the Heartless Crew settle in at The Steelyard from midday to 17:00. As ever, entry includes 90 minutes of bottomless fried chicken and 90 minutes of unlimited rum cocktail - well worthy of loading those gun fingers. Hosting duties fall to Aurie Styla.
We’re back at The Steelyard a week later for a very special treat. Smack/URL is the world leader of MC battle culture - but 10th November represents the first time they touchdown on UK soil. In case you’re unfamiliar with the format, each contestant gets three rounds to diss their opponent in a face-off of lyrical aptitude. Hollow Da Don and John John Da Don will be the competitors squaring off on this occasion.
Lastly, bearing in mind December is traditionally reserved as the month of indulgence, give yourselves a little culinary treat (and maybe some inspiration, who knows?) this November with Taste Of London: Festive Edition. The gastronomic fair lands at Tobacco Dock from 145th-18th. The dockland’s conference centre will be transformed into a foodie wonderland. Attendees will discover the tastiest food, cheeky tipples and even cooking tips at the masterclasses courtesy of some of the industry’s leading personalities. More than 100 of the country’s leading gourmet producers will be on hand to advise and sell their delights. This one will really put you in the mood for the C-word.
