George FitzGerald is readying to release his second full length album, titled All That Must Be. It follows his 2015 debut Falling Love and last year’s retrospective compilation Update. It follows hot on the heels of last year’s crossover hit, Burns – which was the lead-single from the album and was championed by daytime commercial radio as well as being nominated for Annie Mac’s Hottest Record of the Year, landing at a more than respectable #15.
The follow-up track is Roll Back – a collaboration with Bedford-based UK producer Lil Silva. Check-out the official video below.
The video depicts a mother and daughter coming in terms in the immediate aftermath following the breakdown in the former’s relationship with the father. Simplistic in its execution, it explores a journey of emotions from rejection, set-back and, ultimately, moving-on.
George says of the track:
“It’s a sad song. But there was a lot of joy in making it (with Lil Silva). Late night sessions in London and Bedford. Empty trains and night buses home.” The car journey that the two characters take in the video is, of course, by night.
Roll Back is a sign of things to come. The album – the first material he recorded after Falling Love – coincided with a period of personal upheaval, when he left Berlin, his home for a decade, to return to London for the birth of his son. Talking about the album, he says the themes "deal with the processes of upheaval, change, acceptance, and renewal. Expect mesmeric, transportive set of electronic songs. It plots a route through the landscape, both mental and physical over the course of 18 tumultuous months. I wanted to mirror the uncanniness you feel when a massive event happens in your life. Everything looks and sounds the same but it’s somehow different. Your surroundings are less tangible."
The album lands on 9th March 2018 and will be accompanied by a new full live show with band. As well as embarking on a live tour this Spring, we’re excited to catch George in a festival setting. George FitzGeralds joins Tom Misch, Mount Kimbie, Dixon, Daphni, Mr. G (Live) and more at Farr Festival, Bygrave Woods, Hertfordshire from 5th-8th July.
