Idris Elba is a man of many talents. Actor. Model. Philanthropist. DJ. And now record label owner. Elba is extending his 7Wallace brand - lending the name to his new venture. 7 Wallace being the first line of his childhood London address, it is a reoccurring motif across his work as a musician, so it's only fitting that he continues its use. His first signing to the label is a French hip-hop artist of Cameroonian descent called James BKS. James BKS has extensive experience scoring feature films and has also produced for the likes of P.Diddy and Talib Kweli. In his homeland he is most known for his collaborative work with fashion houses Yves Saint Laurent, Prada and Armani.
The debut release on the label will be titled Kwlele. Landing on Friday 13th July, the track is said to be homage to BKS's African heritage. The track also features Dibango and Allan Kingdom. There is no word yet on whether Elba plans to use the label as a platform to release his own music. Previously Elba has released on the likes of Doorly's Reptilian Dysfunction and had his music remixed by Andrea Oliva.
On Sunday 19th August the man formerly known as DJ Driis will be returning to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to play elrow Town London for the second consecutive year. Elba will support Fatboy Slim on the Psychedelic Trip main stage. They will be joined by Claptone and elrow residents. Being in Stratford, this is a home-coming gig for the Hackney-born Mr. Suave. Not doubt Idris will bring his A-game on the date.
