Introducing Applebum - the North London old school r&b and hip hop party which launches it’s Autumn / Winter series at The Garage, Highbury on Friday 25th September. We caught up with the team to find out what their party is all about, who they would like to see and what they have coming up in the future, amongst other things!

So guys, tell us a little bit about Applebum - where the name came from and how the concept come together?

We had been running parties in London and Bournemouth for a few years mainly house/techno, but we all have our roots in Hip Hop & R&B music. At the after parties for our events we always seemed to end up on someones decks playing tunes from our youth and this is kind of how it started, just playing fun music for our friends and ourselves. We are all HUGE Tribe Called Quest fans so the name just comes from one of our favourite Hip Hop tracks of theirs Bonita Applebum - seemed fitting!

Who has been your favourite guest to date and why?

Hard to say as they've all been great! It was great to get Knytro down for our Camden party, he brought a crew of people and kept it live! Doorly & Sonny Fodera have done guest appearances which was pretty special too.

What can we expect to see and hear at your autumn / winter launch party on September 25th?

As we haven't had an event for a few months you can expect a lively crowd! We also have a special guest coming down to scratch, this is a first for us, so we are really excited to be showcase something different.

For anyone out there that may not have been before, tell us a little bit more about your home venue in Highbury - The Garage…

The Garage is a big 600 cap venue well known for concerts rather than club nights, there is a little bar as you enter that has a great little vibe too. They were looking to expand and approached us about having something regular there. The management and bar staff were fantastic at our May event so it was a no brainer, also the location is perfect right opposite Islington tube soon to be running through the night - great selling point!

What would your dream line up be, dead or alive?

A Tribe Called Quest / 2 Pac / Biggy / Wu -Tang Clan / Destiny’s Child / Janet Jackson / TLC / Jay Z / Missy Elliot / Gang Starr / Eminem / Aaliyah / N.E.R.D... the list could go on...

Aside from your own events - who else is putting on a decent party in London these days?

We're a different style of music but we have been going to the Hydra / Electric minds / Bugged Out events for years now. Always a great night!

What else do you have planned for Applebum in 2015?

After a successful summer at festivals we were looking to move in to different cities to keep the brand growing, so we have an event in Bournemouth during their freshers week in October, plus something special in the pipeline for Black History Month, other than that we are keeping ourselves busy with the series and regular mixtapes.
