XL Recordings have announced a collaborative album that promises to bring together the rising voices of the UK’s underground grime and rap scenes. New Gen started out as a playlist series curated by Caroline Simionescu-Martin, formerly editor of GRM Daily.
The idea centres around the New Gen Studio, a space for these artists to collaborate – the fruits of which emerge as an album “anchored in the half space between trap, grime and new wave R&B, the melting pot which has typically come to represent the New Gen sound,” XL explain.
“New Gen serves as a timely snapshot of London’s burgeoning underground music scene, as well as an introduction to those who may have missed these exciting young artists up until now.”
Although the official tracklist has yet to be revealed, some of the talent slated to feature includes Avelino & Tiggs da Author, Bonkaz, AJ Tracey, Nines, Kojey Radical, J Hus and Chip. We’re waiting with baited breath.
AJ Tracey plays at The Arch in November.
