Xmas & new year is done-and-dusted for another year, so give yourself a pat on the back. The UK fell into two-distinct camps: those with too much time on their hands, and those putting their peddle to the floor and working all the hours under the sun (we fall into the latter). Neither knowing what day of the week it was! It was a turbulent fortnight or so, but we’ve emerged the otherside unscathed, if a little over-indulged/sleep-deprived – hooray!
Now that all that carry-on can be put to bed for another year, it’s time to look ahead to the summer and talking about festival season is fairgame once more! Junction 2 – back for their third year in 2018 – had already announced the first lot of names joining them in Boston Manor Park this June. But now their 2nd Phase has dropped – and the themes are back-to-back and magic!
Carl Cox is the livin’ legend exuding charisma, who’s persona (and smile!) can light-up even the most cavernous of rooms. Bringing a carnival atmosphere wherever he plays and always keepin’ it funky, there is little question of his indelible contribution to club culture. In contrast, Adam Beyer has tended to keep things a little darker and yet has still played a pivotal role within the scene. Over the course of 20 years he has honed a distinct brand of techno on Drumcode, turning his label into the most formidable force in modern techno. It speaks volumes that the Swedish label has emulated its Berlin-based contemporaries.
So whilst both have been at the forefront of electronic music for decades, their careers have taken very different paths. Well, almost! There are a handful of links. Like Coxy inviting Adam to play each and every season at his fabled 15-year Revolution residency at Space Ibiza. Or the fact they’re both given equal credit by another J2 favourite - Joseph Capriati - as being the mentors who help shape his career. And whilst he has played B2B with both men on separate occasions - and even joined Adam in the studio - Junction 2 will mark a first: Adam & Coxy locking horns is a worldwide exclusive, never-before-seen pairing. And you just know, they’re gonna make it memorable! As well as playing B2B both men will play solo sets, so it’s clear there will be insane scenes at the main stage. They might just shake the overhead flyover to its very foundations! When two forces… two giants… two worlds collide – The Clash of the Techno Titans. Oh, Yes! Oh, Yes!
But that isn’t the only magic B2B to look forward to! From a brand new fantasy pair, to a timeless fantasy pair. Our next duo are familiar bedfellows behinds the decks. As the heads of Innervisions, they have raised the benchmark for labels releasing underground house music in recent years. Dixon and Âme’s Kristian have played together countless times on many continents. Such is their crate-digging mentality and unearthing pursuit of hard-to-find records, we suspect even they themselves must surprise the other with their selections. And we think that is kind of wondrous – that the very architects of the set have no idea which direction they will go in and far-less how it will end. So to experience their B2Bs is to witness alchemy in real-time. One for true music aficionadas, they have been handed a full six-hours to work wonder with. This is worth travelling for! Shut down your music ID app, put down your phone, and let the music take you on a journey.
The cutting-edge union of Swiss selector Sonja Moonear & My Own Jupiter records' Nicolas Lutz completes a tri-fecta of exclusive B2B showcases. There really is something for everyone.
