Brand new for 2019, Naked City is a festival a little different to the existing options. Brought to you by seasoned electronic music promoters, krankbrother, this exciting new addition to festival season promises to showcase exactly how our city makes us feel. In a make away from their usual territory, krankbrother will instead use Naked City as a platform for music they love away from house and techno. While the musical identity is something new, you can expect the same pristine attention to detail and considered curation in this bold new format. The diverse program will include jazz, afro, dub and disco.
Emanating true London soul, the day-long festival draws upon the capital’s creative central nervous system and consciously shies away from the usual headline acts and predictable bookings. The core of talent is home-grown, with particular emphasis placed on artists who cut their teeth in south London’s vibrant scene. Now let’s take a closer look at the list of confirmed artists.
One name that instantly stands out is 90s soulstress Neneh Cherry. Preferring to stay away from the limelight in recent years, Neneh makes a rare public appearance not to be missed. An international offering is renowned multi-instrumental and creative tour de force Amp Fiddler. The Detroit legend isn’t seen in the UK nearly enough, as is fellow American DJ Spinna. The Brooklyn native is a DJ schooled in hip-hop, but capable of playing across the board with dexterous skill. Back on home soil, LTJ Bukem is a connoisseur of high-brow drum & bass and Kamaal Williams appears under both his given name and his Henry Wu project. We’ve only scratched the surface, though, as Donna Leake, Nubiyan Twist, Laura Misch and many more will also be appearing in an eclectic affair.
An intergenerational event, children are allowed attend if accompanied by an adult, making it a day for the whole family to enjoy. This is the sound of London laid bare.
Tickets for the inaugural festival are on sale now.
