New music from Four Tet is always worth celebrating - and this past Friday was one such day when we were graced by fresh material from Kieran Hebden. Released on 23rd August, the three-track Anna Painting EP contains music that Four Tet had previously used in his collaboration with visual artist Anna Liber Lewis.
Up until now, each track had only ever be played as an aural supplement to their collaborative Muscle Memory exhibition at London’s Elephant West gallery. While these tracks have obviously been in the locker for some time, they are released amid a pretty fertile period of creativity for Four Tet - coming off the back of the critically acclaimed Teenage Birdsong and Dreamer.
You can listen to Anna Painting, Lahaina Noon and Breath in their entirety below:
On the event front, Four Tet has curated his own show for WHP Manchester during the inaugural series at Mayfield Depot. The 12-hour party on Saturday 26th October is bursting with talent - and eclecticism.
In addition to fellow nu-jazz pioneers Jon Hopkins and Daphni, other confirmed guests include Peggy Gou, lo-fi’s Mall Grab, the full Hessle Audio crew, LA underground head Avalon Emerson, Ilian Tape’s Skee Mask, Feel My Bicep’s Lone and garage talent in the form of DJ Q, Flava D and more. Perhaps most curious of all, is headline act Skrillex. The unlikely duo have played B2B previously - with rave reviews - most notably in London back in 2015. If that throwback at Underground in Camden Town was anything to go by, this latest clash of styles could be unmissable. Anna Painting is out on vinyl now.
