Maya Janes Coles has spectacularly teased her much anticipated next album with a new EP, ‘Won’t Let You Down’.
Building on early releases on Dogmatik, Mobilee and Hypercolour, plus remixes for The XX, Bonobo, Little Dragon and more, Maya founded her own record label I/AM/ME, set to be the host once again for her upcoming material.
Title track ‘Won’t Let You Down’ gets the EP underway, introducing psychic synth stabs surrounded by her trademark lucid atmospherics and compelling drums. Meanwhile, ‘Cherry Bomb’ plays with vocal textures alongside immersive synths and headsy drums, before the hypnotic ‘Round In Circles’ finishes things off with dub- inspired beats and intoxicating vocal atmospherics.
Pets Recordings bosses Catz n Dogz provide an upbeat remix for ‘Won’t Let You Down’ whilst rising star Paride Saraceni, offers a darker prime-time techno alternative. I/AM/ME was the home for Maya’s debut album ‘Comfort’ back in 2013, followed by an eponymous bass music driven album under her “Nocturnal Sunshine” alias.
As a DJ, Maya has played everywhere from Coachella to Glastonbury, the Tate Modern, MOMA and even Brighton FC Stadium. She’s also picked up numerous awards including ‘Best Producer’ and ‘Best DJ’ from the likes of Mixmag, DJ Mag and FACT!; graced over 20 magazine covers and even taken the time to front a worldwide Dr Martens campaign. Most recently she produced Drake & Nicki Minaj’s Grammy nominated ‘Truffle Butter’ – a song on the verge of achieving platinum status in the US and that has already gone silver in the UK.
Huge achievements indeed – we can’t wait for the album.
Maya Jane Coles plays at Wild Life festival this year.
