After resurrecting his lesser-known production aliases Maetrik and Mariel Ito, Eric Estornel is back producing music under his most famous moniker; Maceo Plex.
In fact, 2018 has already proved to be an especially prolific studio period for the Barcelona-based, American DJ/producer. He has treated fans to the first instalment of his Mutant series, with the second dropping imminently on new subsidiary label, Ellum Black. But that aside, he was also invited by the reborn Renaissance label to become part of their increasingly popular ReMix Collection series.
Following in the footsteps of last year’s giant Solomun Age Of Love rework and Tale Of Us’ colossal take on Energy 52’s Café del Mar which came out in June, Maceo’s entry follows suit and brings a piece of music bang up to date. A little different to the two previous releases, instead of being a classic dancefloor anthem, Maceo has remixed the film score from 1982 cult-classic Blade Runner. Having debuted the track at Time Warp, Plex had fans on tenterhooks as to what it is was and when it would be released.
Longterm fans of the artist will know his is a huge fan of film composer Vangelis, and even opened his 2015 Essential Mix with Remake’s original track., so we knew full well that he would do the remix justice. Out now on digital and vinyl, Blade Runner (Maceo Plex Renaissance Remix) is destined to become one of the tracks of the summer.
Maceo Plex plays Sonus festival in Zcre Beach, Pag Island, Croatia between 19th-23rd August. He’s joined by the likes of Adriatique, Dixon and Kolsch amongst many more. 2nd release tickets are on sale now.
