It’s been a pretty eventful couple of weeks for Danilo Plessow AKA Motor City Drum Ensemble. Not only did the revered artist feature prominently in Junction 2’s massive 2019 announcement, but the label boss is basking in the milestone of a decade of MCDE Records. To commemorate the landmark, Plessow has released a retrospective compilation featuring 15 of the label’s tracks from this period.
The body of work is a reminder of how many great productions MCDE has gifted us down the years. Amongst the artists included are scene giants, such as (Laurent) Garnier and Harvey Sutherland. Naturally, Plessow appears several times from start to finish, and even contributes a never-before-seen track called Don’t You Ever Change - a collaboration with Pablo Valentino and vocalist Ahmad Larnes.
In addition, Marsellus Pittman and Fred P provide fresh interpretations to classic tracks. Overall, the comp is a deep, soulful odyssey through the ranks of nuanced house music. Multiple entries from MCDE’s acclaimed Raw Cut series can also be found here.
On Friday 7th June 2019, Motor City Drum Ensemble lines up alongside Bicep, Daniel Avery and Daphni as Junction 2 is extended to two days. With the opening Friday night being honed around more house-leaning artists, this unprecedented expansion gives a J2 a brand new dimension and allows London’s premier underground music festival to explore new frontiers. 2019 will mark Plessow’s first appearance at Boston Manor Park, although he lines up in good company, as Avery and Daphni know exactly what the event is all about.
Other names confirmed for Friday include Call Super, Job Jobse, Peach and Shanti Celeste with more names forthcoming over the next few months.
MCDE Recordings Best Of (2008 - 2018) is out now and available from all good download stores.
Tickets for both days of Junction 2 2019 are now on general sale.
