Pariah has returned with new music, dropping debut album Here From Where We Are on Houndstooth. He follows in the footsteps of an enviable hall of fame who have released on fabric’s label wing, including Special Request, Marquis Hawkes and Throwing Snow. Although he has continued to produce and tour alongside Blawan as Karenn, unbelievably it’s been six years since we’ve been treated to new solo material. Until now, he has previously almost exclusively released on famed Belgian imprint R&S.
Perhaps there is a suggestion that the man otherwise known as Arthur Cayzer was left in the musical wilderness, unsure of his identity and which direction to pull. There is certainly enough musical ideas coming together across the 9-tracks that this was a project that saw Pariah finally makes sense of who he was as an artist, and where he’s heading from here on out.
He certainly feels like a producer whose found his stride under rejuvenated vigour on this latest material. Each track is textured and multi-layered, forming a coherent body of work with absorbing melodies and rich harmonies all the while following an ambient narrative. The album is out now, and we strongly recommend locking yourself away in your room and putting it on repeat for some quiet contemplation. You can preview Linnaea below.
You can catch Pariah in more familiar territory when he plays Egg London alongside Omar-S and Phonica DJs on Saturday 28th July. 2nd release tickets are on sale now.
