After breaking out with a number of chart topping releases in 2011, Peter O’Grady aka Joy Orbison has consistently wowed us with his base-heavy house bangers and unforgettable performances at events and festivals such as Glastonbury, Dekmantel festival, Houghton festival, DGTL Barcelona, Dimensions festival and Berlin’s Berghain to name a few. He’s had a busy seven year career so far touring, releasing new material and co-running labels – ‘Hinge Finger’ (with Will Bankhead), ‘Sunklo’ (with Boddika), ‘Toss Portal’ and ‘Doldrums’ as well as releasing on famous labels such as Hotflush, Aus Music, Swamp 81, Dekmantel’s Selectors label and many more.
Next up for O’Grady is a collaboration with London based Saxophonist Ben Vince with a two-track EP on UK label Hessle Audio (run by the legendary trio; Ben UFO, Pangaea and Pearson Sound). Surprisingly it’s Joy O’s first appearance on the label, but a perfect next step and is seamlessly well-suited with the labels sound and production style.
The first track is titled Transition 2, and the second Systems Align, which were produced as a result of collaborative studio sessions. You can tell the pair spent time producing them together as they have cleverly combined underground house and bass and nicely finished off with a saxophone melody running throughout – not an easy job!
The EP is out on May 11th but in the mean time you can listen to clips below.
Catch Joy O at London’s Junction 2 festival and Leeds’ new festival inner city electronic in June.
