Sasha and Late Night Tales have released a special edition Blu-Ray featuring his ReFracted: Live show, which was recorded over both legs of his Barbican performances in May last summer.
Our highlight from the disc has to be the rendition of seminal classic Xpander. Sasha said of the rendition: “During rehearsals, everybody was like “we have to do Xpander!” Of course it was the scariest thing to tackle because it was such a big record. We slowed it right down, put this really teasing intro in that sounded very Steve Reich-ian. The moment that it opened-up and the riff came in was a really special moment.”
Here’s a snippet of what went down:
The release preceded news that Sasha will once again join forces with an 8-piece string section, percussionist and vocalist for a second run of live shows at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall and London’s Roundhouse in early 2018.
It’s been quite a year for the veteran DJ – arguably his biggest to date! In one of his most productive years as an artist, he’s released Track10, GameOvr on Watergate and his Out Of Time collab with Poliça on Kompakt. Not only that, but he’s continued to evolve his Last Night On Earth label, toured extensively with Resistance & sparring-partner John Digweed and put out a remix album for Scene Delete, his downtempo offering which inspired the idea of a live show.
In the meantime, if you can’t wait to get your Sasha fix, he’ll be back to regular DJ duties hitting the south coast’s Concorde2 on Saturday 2nd December for part of their Extended series – playing a 4-hour set no less!
Final release tickets are on sale now.
