Mercury Award winning grime artist Skepta proved this week that he’s as big hearted as he is outspoken, with a special show in aid of homeless charity Shelter.
Just 750 lucky ticketholders won a ballot for £40 tickets to see Skepta in the intimate space of Islington Assembly Hall on Wednesday April 4, with surprise special guests in tow – brother-in- arms JME, New York rapper A$AP Rocky and fellow Boy Better Know member Shorty all joined the self-proclaimed ‘man of the people’ on stage.
Actor Idris Elba stepped out on stage to introduce the show, saying "Thank you to everyone for being here. Every penny goes to a good cause. Tonight is about all of us being together. This is about us all giving back. Everyone should give back.”
He later attacked government cuts to housing benefits for 18-21 year-olds, saying: “We have one of the strongest currencies in the world - why do we have 60,000 women and single mothers homeless? … The government is trying to take away housing allowances from 18-21- year-olds ... Seriously man. No one should be homeless.”
Over £30,000 in total was raised.
