DJ producer Denney has certainly been putting his name out there over recent years. The Hot Creations and ViVA favourite has seen success with hits such as ‘Low Frequency’, ‘Ultraviolet’ & ‘Pimp Out’.

Although a contributing factor, it’s not just Denney’s solid music production, which has seen him become a household name on the UK House scene; his energetic, fun and full-bodied performances have turned heads on every dance floor he’s graced.

We had a quick chat with Denney about his influences, back-catalogue, Ibiza and festivals.

The last few years have been really successful for you, what would yousay was the turning point?

I would say the big turning point was releasing "Ultraviolet" on hot creations in 2012. That was the point where I was able to leave my day job and do music full time.

Originally from Leeds, how do you feel the scene in the North has helped with your progression as an artist?

I think it's shaped me massively as an artist, growing up in the Sugarshack in Middlesbrough and then the main inspiration would be Back to Basics in Leeds, that's where I feel I really cut my teeth.

Who would you most like to play or produce with that you haven’t already?

I would love to make a track with Andrew Weatherall and Laurent Garnier just to see how they work in the studio. Plus, they are both massive inspirations to me.

'Low Frequency' was a big hit with the likes of Pete Tong and Annie Mac, but what is your favourite release that you’ve made to date? (released or not)

I have two I guess, a track called "Strobelight" which was released on VIVa a few years ago and more recently I did a remix of Booka Shade which I'm pretty proud of.

You've been billed to play Paradise in Ibiza on August 24 alongside Adam Beyer, Ame, Roman Flugel and Ida Engberg, a slightly heavier line up than you've been typically booked for - how will you approach this kind of show?

To be honest I've been playing slightly heavier recently at festival gigs, stepping over into techno territory so I might venture that way. It all depends what time I'm playing I guess but I'll take a full bag of tunes across the board and see what the vibe is on the night.

You're no stranger to big crowds, what festivals are you most lookingforward to appearing at this summer?

I'm looking forward to Hideout in Croatia, Secret Garden Party is always fun and I'm playing with the Paradise crew at Creamfields and Tomorrowland which should be good fun!

And finally, what’s up next release wise?

I'm currently working on a 3 track collaboration EP with Groove Armada, Steve Lawler and Skream which I'm super excited about. Also just finishing an EP for Heidi's Jackathon Jams label!
