We know it can be difficult keeping track of key dates when you’re busy planning your hectic social calendar, so take this as a friendly nudge or timely reminder: MOTHER’S DAY IS SUNDAY 11th MARCH! That’s under a week away, so if you’ve yet to get anything sorted you’d better pull your finger out! Fortunately, we’ve got a selection of gift ideas if you fancy spending some quality time with your Mum at one of our unique experiences.
Camden institute The Jazz Café hosts a run of evenings dedicated to soul legends. First-up is A Night Of Marvyn Gaye on Sunday 25th March. The night will feature full band live renditions of all his timeless tracks from Sexual Healing to Let’s Get It On. Or if she’s more of a Luther girl, Monday 23rd April is dedicated to Mr. Vandross. But instead of dancing with your father, you’d better save this dance for your Mum! The music of Stevie Wonder takes centre stage on Monday 14th May. From your Mum’s era, sure, but their music’s still as relevant today as it’s ever been.
On Friday 9th March 1920’s style party-throwers The Candlelight Club return with The Golden Age of Travel. Held a secret East London location, their latest concept aims to replicate the birth of the ocean liner when the Atlantic became the busiest commercial route and the world was opened-up. Expect live jazz bands, cabaret, deck chairs and nautical drinks. As ever, getting involved with period fancy-dress is actively encouraged. And we’re sure your Mum would be up for the craic!
Right Said Veg – nope, not some corny cover band – but London’s latest vegan supper club. Setting-up shop at Finsbury Park’s tranquil Salt The Radish Café, the dining experience promises to be fun and inclusive. Renowned chef Kat Halliday invites knowledgeable and passionate foodies, whether they identify as Vegan-concerts or are merely Vegan-curious. The best part? It’s BYOB! So you needn’t worry about them stocking your favourite wine or paying over the odds. It kicks-off on Thursday 22nd March.
On Wednesday 4th April it’s time for the return of Disco Yoga: Bend It Like Peckham! They will have you sweating glitter as you dance, sing and shake your body down before taking a disco nap in the coolest of cooldowns, all the way to cocktail 'o' clock! After the class you can reward yourself with a supersmooth, supertasty, superfood cocktail. Even if your Mum doesn’t fancy this one, don't worry about coming along solo, as you’ll soon be moving, laughing and chatting with your new classmates!
Finally, if your Mum has more high-brow tastes, then why not consider taking her to London Sifionetta’s latest operatic production, The Cave. Running from Wednesday 20th to Saturday 23rd June, the original story is set in dystopic future, and follows a grieving father as he fights for survival whilst navigating the perilous underworld.
Tickets for all of the above shows and more are on sale now and can be found on the website.
